Brits move abroad for sunnier climes and better quality of life
According to new research from Alliance & Leicester, the most popular reason for Brits to move abroad is to enjoy better weather, with 57 per cent citing this as the top reason for their move.
Fifty-six per cent of people said they had a higher quality of life abroad, 49 per cent said they felt safer and 28 per cent said they wanted to eat better food.
However, many expats missed the comforts of their native country, with 51 per cent saying they missed their families and one in ten said they missed British food.
Unsurprisingly, only four per cent said they missed the British weather.
Simon Ripton, joint managing director at Alliance & Leicester International, said: "The survey findings show that many Brits have moved abroad in an attempt to escape to UK's dismal weather."
He added that missing friends and family showed that living abroad could not offer all the home comforts the UK can.
Mr Ripton said that using a British bank could help expats who miss Britain maintain a tangible link with their native country.
Meanwhile, overseas property-hunters have been warned to ensure they do their homework and take specialist legal advice from an independent lawyer, according to the Independent.
